effects animation!

wow, its been almost 3 months....who knew.

I recently came across Elemantal Magic, the art of effects animation by Joseph Gilland. And it is AMAZING and I am hooked.

and so, while searching for more to fuel my curiosity in this side of animation I never realized I didnt know...I came across the great blog of Kathleen Quaife whose effects animation blew me away again.

she posted a page on fire animation and I couldnt resist drawing over it and filming it for myself:

2 more

Couple sketch book grabs. They may not seem like much, but I gave these two a little more time then I usually do nowadays. Had some fun with drapery and extra costume pieces etc

couple of the latest

end of summer sketch. having a giant pet turtle would be badass

School project; the first time we've studied canines, and the first time Ive rendered muscle and not wanted to shoot myself.

AND heres a collab project with a buddy from class. She just made her own blog, check it:

She sketched the base pose, then I tried to make him look all TANKed. the clothes were pretty half and half.

PSO

I feel no descriptions are needed for any of these pictures.

Those who recognize these characters already know of the hours and hours of joy and happiness they bring - that is reward enough.

may your red boxes be numerous and never ending. ha

fantasy stuff

duo of mystically orientic individuals

Aside from the whole Orc bit, this is HUGELY inspired by the comic 'NorthLanders' about vikings and drawn by Davide Gianfelice. I recomend looking him up in the side bar --->

Seven Samurai

The classic hailed by movie critics everywhere. And one of those films that makes you want to pick up a pencil, at least it did for me.

......as cool as it would be, this stuff is not from the movie, just a few more sketches

Robo Evolution

Heres more on the robot design, or as you'll see further down: the 'TOMB GUARDIAN!' oooo! ...ominous.

Anyway, Prof thought out of the two robos, this guy was the more original design, so starting from the thumb, heres his journey from puny lead scratches to fully developed super bot (although theres still a touch more on the way)

Step 1: what i thought was mediocre sketch (but still kinda cool) catches the teachers eye. maybe the guy loves robots ALOT or he liked how I made up (on the spot) the idea that he was a futuristic-robotic-elemental fighting machine....or something

2: As much as he liked the idea, prof said the head sucked, so more heads

2.5: when you FAIL! ...try try again. more heads based on 1/11/18

3: Revamped body, still no word on the heads...

4: Improvements done on the limbs sticks, heading more mechanical, and narrowed down to 3 heads. Im hoping for #1

5: almost approved.... hip designs

6: Perspective grid to correct final mistakes.

7: Final char ready for rotation.

8: Anatomy Study, I think we only had to do like one arm....but i figured he looked better this way

9: 3 point turn around...

10: ....and a skeleton youll never see to make him look cool.

Back Study

more on the muscle front, did these awhile ago and never got around to posting. I think I remember not wanting to cuz the traps are a little F 'd, gotta work on that

I think the first one (top left) turned out best too......go figure. Still, muscles are super cool

Char Design

Some character designs for school. I was likin the skinny guy with the knife and the cowboy but I have a theory that my prof has a soft spot for the robos so when he went for 3 & 4 I wasn't surprised.

More on those dudes as the assignment continues
