Torso study

Theres something about anatomy thats fun to figure out, its like a big living bendable puzzle.

And so: the beginnings of my new goal to become well versed in all the intricacies of the human body.

Skip Rope

Latest animation. This one I got pretty pumped for, ended up being a lot of fun.

Little Wendy was feeling the need to do some cardio, and I felt the need to show how it all went down.

Probably one off my better animations to date. Ive realized, its all thanks to just enjoying oneself and finding satisfaction in the struggle.

All in all, gotta say that this art form is THE best invention of all time. Sorry to people with 'real jobs,' but animations got you beat.

Assorted

So, haven't been doing all that much personal drawing, assignments + tribe tales takes first priority now-a-days, but heres some of the latest.

New Comic Blog!

As of a few weeks ago, my life has become a lot busier,.... and hopefully a helluva lot more fun!

Not only has school started once again, but me and a friend have decided to try and start our own web comic as a little side project. Now I know that animation is a full time deal, but even while only in the design phase, the comic already seems to have a firm hold on me.

The main challenge is that its a completely different style then what I'm used to, but I can see char designs, layouts, boarding and (fingers crossed) animation coming out of it. We'll see how things go.

So check it out! Ive added the link to the sidebar -----> tribetales.blogspot.com

One and only

At the start of the summer I had this huge plan to animate like my life depended on it. Fortunately it doesn't ...cuz i didn't.

One thing led to another and I only got my animation software and setup ready to go in these last few weeks but heres one thing I was able to pull off:

kid run cycle

im hoping to squeeze in one more video before school starts. we'll see how that goes...

First Commision

A while ago I got my first paid art project from a friend of mine I work with. A relatively simple thing, he had a painting he needed recreated in pencil with a couple changes made.

I just find it really cool to say I had a 'client'

But here it is, finally finished: 14x18 pencil on bristleboard

...and the original. Marie Alfonse Mucha's 'JOB'

Step by Step

Heres my study of forearm & calf muscles. For fun I scanned more then just the last piece to see the process, too bad i missed the first with just blue.

whatdya think paul? - elite? - nightmare? haha, its always in the back of my mind now

Pecks and Quads lesson 1

Newest edition to the skeleton theme. Ive realized as I try to understand anatomy, that directly applying it to a drawing really forces me to know exactly how and where it works. Skeleton Captain = learning

....haha, just noticed, i put his right fibula on the wrong side, oops

Malebolgia's newest recruit

Hahaha! just looking at this makes me laugh. On the right is me trying to draw a friend's character - Yama Doll. On the left is me making him into a demon warrior from hell.

Hawth

Finally! internets been down for a while so updates took a bit of a break. but now we're back:

So, more of the main character from my novel. Finally came up with something besides 'Bird Man' to call him, and I know similar to a Star Wars reference but maybe thats another reason I like it.

To me its just Hawk with a twist. whichever.

In an attempt to improve my posing, I sketched scenes of the eagle (in blue) from The Rescuers Down Under, then tried putting Hawth in that position. I think it worked for the most part.

Some of the things Ive come to really enjoy drawing are birds - or wings or feathers; hard to say and muscles - or anatomy. So this guy puts em both together nicely.

Big Bad Undead

more skeleton dudes. I like how the big guy looks pretty solid but I think he couldve been bulkier. The skinny guy isnt very anatomically correct but it works here and there

Kimari Ronso

Dam! Ive been trying to post at least once a week, but last week, I lost it.... Ill have to try for an extra entry instead

Heres the latest, I just finished FFX (i know im really late) and had to draw my favorite character. Its a good game, but sometimes having fun building this guy up was the only thing that got me through. All I have to say is I hope someone slapped tidus' voice actor.

Also, I may try out my colouring skillz, or lack there of, on this guy. little sneak peak.

Valkyries

Same friend. same book. more concepts.

This time its a kind of bird-human thing, the main idea being it can fly. Now, in my friends book these creatures have the natural ability to levitate, but i realized, that only means up and down. So....these guys can go up and down, and the wings help them do everything else in between.

this is the first thing the popped into my head when my buddy first told me about these guys. dont know why, but im liking the long necked thing. I imagine them as a fair amount taller then other creatures, a nice towering enemy to diversify the lineup.

'Valkyrie' generally sounds kinda elegant, which normally equals women. the idea behind the elbow feathers is that they swivel back and forth for gliding and then for convenience.

My personal favorite. Its not really a monster until its creepy and vile. Also I think i can say that top left pic is the first time im pleased with a feather/wing drawing Ive done. yay for me.

Reapers

More character concepts. A good friend of mine invented a crazy idea for a fantasy story, and after telling me about it, let me in on it. Hopefully this may one day become a animated series. I think its got nice potential.

Guy Reapers

Girl Reapers

Quick summary: When a person dies, besides being collected by heaven or hell, their soul can be stolen by a reaper and then turned into a fellow reaper to then harvest more souls. the story follows the life of a talented reaper as he tries to find his friend's lost soul, survive the dangers of the dimensions and please the reaper Queen.

Skeles

Every Tuesday night, a bunch of us from school get together and draw. Good way of making the ideas flow. Heres what came out of last week:

I was gonna add muscles on the second one too, but i liked the bones the way they were

skeleton warriors always have good silhouettes

Werewolves

Again concepts for a friends fantasy novel. Tried to think of ways a human-wolf could look without going with the typical design, but its hard. ill probably do a few more...

realism didnt work as well for this kind of thing, i like the design though.

walking tarzan style, the knuckles turned out pretty cool, also like the hair that stops at the wrist

a little off; my friend's versions are mainly supposed to be more on the brutish side.

Ryda

character concept for a friends fantasy novel. I didnt tell him I was doing it (it was a spur of the moment thing) so all i was really going with was the fact that she had a big sword.

hope you like it paul haha.

viking

it took alot of self control, but i forced myself past muscles and 'finished' a character.

I know he would have looked better with the classic horned helmet but I was trying to change things up a bit. I like the style in his beard, but I didnt always know how/try to give the rest that same look.

muscles

Damn! its been to long, but im dumb and dont draw and when i do im slow......but hopefully thatll change.

for now; latest sketches, enjoy:

first drawing in a new sketchbook. to keep things nice and fresh i did something i havnt done in a while....self portrait.

went for a little more stylized with this dwarf guy. I always plan on doing a full character but have too much fun with anatomy....

again, muscles are too cool. when i grow up, i wanna be the hulk.

troll dolls

tiny 'troll doll' character inspired from the concepts of a friend of mine's tv show. timid, somewhat dim, but full of energy and zeal. Like a pet dog who actually has a chance of understanding what your saying.

-> the square on the one guys butt is a paper that gives this guy (and other toys) life

head designs

Design project for school. Of the twenty we needed to invent, these are some of my better/favorite ones:

and note to self: listen to your friends; dont use the illustration/clean up function on the scanner...
