the legendary Zorro!!

I love zorro, hes kickass. I never saw the second (but i assume its not that great) and i will never see the third (because its obviously bad), the Mask of Zorro however = classic.

in terms of the drawing, Ive been reading alot of spawn lately, and his cape is pretty sweet so i thought it would look good. but that adds a kind of evil/dark/rebelness to the character, which is fine by me, and i played that up even more by putting on the old 'joker' expression as well.

I think it turned out. in my opinion its one of my best characters to date so ill most likely be inspired to do a few more of this guy. btw, those with the wii, december 2007 (now) is the official release date for 'the destiny of zorro.' dunno if its actually hit shelves but when it does.....its zorro, buy it.

sketches from the mask of zorro before i tried my own version. i didnt actually use them for reference in the end but they were fun to draw anyway. i like the first set

Caesars Bedroom

term 1 design final for first year animation.

Its not bad; not everything is perfectly accurate, in adding detailed ornaments to the armor I missed the muscle design the roman cuirass usually had, the pillar could have a little more... with only the gladius it looks kind of bare. If I knew how I would have tried to render the carpet so that is stands out a bit from the marble but i suppose that could be left to the colorer haha.

Archer

Inspired by a friend of mine who was trying out the same idea; originally a female elf...with a bow. not too complicated.

but then i didnt feel like bothering with altering the body or face to give it the slim and slender elf feel, and then i wanted some more rugged and worn armour...etc

All in all, I like it, but now its more of a female ranger/rogue/assasin/amazon.... take your pick

Goblins

At first I didnt want to post these guys, not my best stuff in my opinion, but for lack of a better image and because I hadnt done anything else in a while...here they go.

The first was the one with the book and from there I kinda strayed off model - the tired guy is pretty bad. But still, good practice in expressions for me, spent a bunch of time looking in the mirror and thinking about what would best represent his character.

Bird Man

Here is a more fully formed 'bird man.' Dont know what to call him, but thats the least necessary detail. also forgot about his thigh feathers...
this was hard to figure out, how would a human fold in wings that were attached to their arm?

Filler

Still no fully developed drawing to post so instead ill put up the ideas to what will eventually be a decent post, I hope.

These are concepts Ive started for a somewhat strange character. I like the idea of combining animals with humans, or at least giving a character something extra, as cool as a plain character can be, humans are sometimes too ...regular.

...you can be the judge as to whether or not this is working, but I think this guy is kinda pretty cool already.

ya...

unfortunately over this summer break I decided to take on a lot of hours at work and neglected to draw very much...at all. Hence the lack of posts for a few months. Well hopefully that will change, a new school year has begun and will, without a doubt, whip me back into shape.

The few drawings I did over the summer I dont feel are any good so the blog is gonna have to stay blank for a little longer, but, Ill work to change that very soon.

Self Portrait

Heres a couple more drawings while the school year finishes up:
this is me, to the best of my abilities
a 'lone ranger' sketch, still need to fix the fact that only half of the things hes wearing are being affected by the wind

finally something works

haven't posted in a while, its crunch time at school so heres all I can sneak in for now. These are final assignments (hopefully) ready for the portfolio:

heres another version of the first 'wizards office.' to be honest I think this is the first time I am pleased with a layout, theres always room for improvement but this little guy worked out pretty well and I don't see any huge mistakes. I like it.
and here is the newest 'wild west.' This seems to be dangerously close to becoming another long series of revisions like the wizard offices. at first the items I added on the side of the hotel seemed to me like the perfect solution to the blank look of the layout, but now looking at it in scanned form, it seems to be blank again, ha ha, oh well.

Wizards Office V3

this started out as a revision of the original room in one point but I got caught up in new techniques I had learned and basically made a whole new layout...so the newest installment in this wizards office 'series': version 3.

orcs

these last two poses are obviously out of character, the left one is a 'ninja-martial arts' pose if its confusing

Wizards office

revision of the last wizards office in two point.

cat-human

cat mutant inspired by one of my novels, muscles are disgustingly huge in places but I liked that look in the end.
experimented with photoshop for clean up, a lot harder then it looks...

sketchbook entries

life drawing at the museum of nature, might go back and finish it one day...
This started from lazily drawing different gators to a full blown character. I still can't decide if I was going for yawning or laughing in the bottom head.

mutant

this was me seeing if I could put two torsos together and keep (relatively) proper anatomy. I also tried to some what stylize the drawing. legs and hands are hard.

hyenas

Just getting a feel for how a hyena looks in a cartoon setting...
...then took a more stylized route.
When drawing this guy, I imagined him to be the size of a Chiwawa, it just makes him a lot more funny, no matter how angry he is. All he'd be able to do is run in circles around your feet...

And when hes bugging you, no matter how hard you punted him, he'd just bounce back up again.

SCI-FI! yeah!

"Sci-Fi Sniper" I hope its fairly clear, but the hologram (yes thats what its supposed to be) is showing you what the gun is 'seeing,' aka the inside of the spaceship in the distance. All in all I think it turned out pretty good. I like my rocky background .
Revision of the wild west layout, all I did was touch up the jail's rendering (the stone building on the left) and added lettering. Still....no people, ha ha.

Life Drawings

simple hands and feet life drawings, not much to say here.

waterfall

A friend wanted to know what it would look like if the blank space on the 'aztec jungle' layout was filled in. Heres something like what one frame of the animated water might be like.

This was something I drew for fun before the final copy was done so you can see the plant and edge of the pool arent the same anymore.

animation character line-up

This is a class asignment where I had to invent a short cartoon and sketch out the characters. I dont think its going any further then this but I think I might do a few storyboards for fun since these guys (and girl) turned out pretty good.

even MORE layouts

"Sculpture's Studio" In this layout I gave in and tried to darken the objects in the foreground with a special pencil like my professors been telling me too. I never thought I needed to but he knows what hes talking about. Ended up turning out ok.

On a side note: I totally messed up on the line weight in this picture so the dark objects may look out of place but its the light stuff that wrong, not the dark stuff.

I also liked how I figured out a way to add a gargoyle into the pic. haha.
Oh boy...soooo bad. Walls are blank, I covered both floor lines, it doesn't look cluttered; just random. Plus it seems like I forgot everything I knew about line weight (things closer are drawn darker and vise versa) when I drew this thing. Granted I had run out of time before this thing was due, but then again, still my fault.

Hopefully the fact that this is a revision of the crap below may salvage some of my dignity.
Like I said above, this is the original ''Wizards office" in 2point perspective that I revised to make the above layout. I would beat myself up about it, but I was still learning about layout in general so whatever. Im only posting it so ppl can see the thought process.

(this is not to be confused with the other "wizards office'' I posted a while ago. That "wizards office" is the revised layout of the 1point perspective version. Note that 1point is went you're looking at a wall, and 2point is looking at a corner)

more pirates

These are some extra poses I did of my female pirate character for fun. Her agile-ness was probably what convinced me to put her in more poses. Characters that can really move are always cool. (I think the top-right one is the best)
At the same time I drew the female pirate, I also drew this guy. I wasnt going to post him at first because he just didnt look as good compared to the girl, but, taking a second look at him, hes not bad I guess
Male pirate's back view.

pirates

A female pirate character Ive been working on. Pretty fun to draw

more layouts

Inside a mech cockpit
Same as above, different angle
I started with the idea for a 'wizard's office' but I kinda strayed from that plan in the end. Still needs some work.

layouts (or backgrounds)

Ancient Aztec jungle ruins. As my first outdoor layout, this was a big experiment but it turned out ok. The water is left blank because if this were for a movie, it would be animated seperatly
Egyptian throne room. This I thought ended up not looking as 'egyptian' as I had hoped
The Wild West...without people.

Unfortunately, my scanner is only for 81/2 x 11 sized paper and these layouts are done on animation paper which is barely bigger. Theres always going to be like half an inch cut off the edge but I might start to double-scan drawings and stitch them back up in photoshop. Until then, know that for all cut off stuff, I blame my scanner.
